Job Description

Summary of The Role

The Back-End Developer plays a key role in designing, building, and maintaining scalable and reliable backend services and APIs. This position is responsible for developing high-quality server-side solutions using Java and Spring Boot, ensuring performance, security, and maintainability across all systems.

Working within a collaborative product development environment, the role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to translate business and technical requirements into robust backend solutions. The Developer will work closely with cross-functional teams to support integration, resolve issues, and continuously improve development practices.

Operating with a high level of ownership, the role requires proactive problem-solving, clear communication, and a commitment to delivering clean, efficient, and well-structured code.

Role Responsibilities

Designing, building, and maintaining backend services and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
Translating business and technical requirements into scalable and maintainable backend solutions.
Developing and supporting database-driven functionality, including data access, validation, and error handling.
Collaborating with front-end developers and stakeholders to integrate server-side logic with user-facing features.
Writing clean, readable, and well-documented code in line with best practices.
Participating in code reviews to maintain high standards of quality and consistency.
Investigating, debugging, and resolving defects across development, testing, and production environments.
Contributing to unit, integration, and regression testing to improve system reliability.
Using version control and CI/CD tools (e.g., Git, Gradle, TeamCity) as part of the development lifecycle.
Supporting deployment processes and ensuring smooth releases.
Identifying opportunities to improve code quality, system performance, and development processes.
Collaborating effectively within a team environment, maintaining clear communication on progress and challenges.

Requirements

Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Minimum of 3 years’ commercial experience in software development using Java and Spring / Spring Boot.
Strong understanding of RESTful API design and backend architecture principles.
Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
Hands-on experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and build/CI tools (e.g., Gradle; TeamCity exposure advantageous).
Good understanding of software development best practices, including code quality, testing, and debugging.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, maintainable code.
Experience working in a collaborative development environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to manage tasks independently and deliver within deadlines.

Desirable:

Experience with CUBA or Jmix platforms.
Exposure to performance optimisation, monitoring, or production support.
Familiarity with modern development workflows and agile methodologies.
